OYSTER builds on Pearl, a Proof-of-Useful-Work blockchain. The work that secures the chain is matrix multiplication performed by real AI inference. Below is what happens to a unit of compute, taken from the open-source Pearl stack, and where OYSTER comes in.
| Step | Stage | What happens | Where in Pearl |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Grain | A GPU is pointed at the Pearl Network. pearl-gateway pulls a block template from a pearld node and hands the miner a job. | pearl-gateway · getMiningInfo |
| 2 | Compute | The vLLM miner serves a real model. Its quantized linear layers run on NoisyGEMM kernels, so the model's matrix multiplications are the mining work. | vllm-miner · pearl-gemm (CUDA) |
| 3 | Proof | When a computation meets the network target, the miner opens a proof. The gateway wraps it in a zero-knowledge certificate, builds the block and submits it to pearld. | submitPlainProof → submitblock · zk-pow |
| 4 | Pearl | An accepted block pays the coinbase reward in PRL to the miner's Taproot address. The reward can be spent after 100 confirmations. | prl1p… · coinbase maturity 100 |
MemorandumRE: the OYSTER layer · STATUS: in development
Robinhood Chain is a permissionless, EVM-compatible Arbitrum L2 with gas paid in ETH. OYSTER will keep its participation and accounting there, in smart contracts: linking a person's wallet address to the compute they contribute, so a share of the Reef's work can be tracked in public.
The contracts for this layer are not deployed. Until they are, account figures on the Reef are marked N/A.
The miner never talks to the chain directly. pearl-gateway sits between the GPU process and the pearld full node, and OYSTER only reads from the node and the wallet.
